Lady Denim

Is the cast of Stand By Me with Australian accents at 120 BPM

Actually, only two of them have Australian accents, but we tend to round up. The Fort Collins duo broke onto the local music scene with the release of their 2019 single, “Pipe Dream” while attending Colorado State University. The band has since added two members and released an EP, Edgy Girls Like Ramona, and an additional single, “Cherry Limeade,” also in 2019.

The quartet have a boyish camaraderie, which makes you think that they too could utter the words, “I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve.” Except they’re in their 20’s and play pop-inspired indie rock. Lady Denim draws inspiration from 80s guitar melodies and synth lines that puts them somewhere between the Smiths, Whatever People Say I am, That’s What I’m Not, and “Island in the Sun.” It’s good company to keep as the band continues to develop its sound.

This three-part performance was shot at the historic Aztlan Theater on Santa Fe Drive in Denver—an enigmatic venue that once hosted the Chili Peppers in ‘87 and doesn’t look like it’s changed much since. Owner Tim Correa has been trying to sell the Aztlan in recent years, but to no avail. For now, it remains an iconic piece of architecture in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood.

The set includes previously unreleased singles, “Avery Park” and “Old & New,” as well as the popular “Cherry Limeade.” Studio versions of the former are planned to be released in late 2020, with a full length album on the horizon for early 2021.
